Tommy cannot be found

Post by Aurin »

Hey guys.

So ive returned to the cave in new hope and killed every critter in it.
In this cave there is a part south-east with a big radscorpion.
There should be the body of tommy (saw it in a walkthrough).

His body is not there!

Im playing with the latest patch for 1.5 and with the german version of Fallout 2.
Is there anny known reason for this bug?
I know that children where cut from the german Fallout 2 version but there are plenty of them in rathole.
Will this be a problem later in the game? Like this its actually not possible to complete certain quests so far.

Thanks for the help.

Bodies disappear after leaving an area, is his loot in a puddle of blood at least?

No one reported this so far. Children are in Resurrection so it doesn't matter if you don't have them in your Fallout 2. And Tommy doesn't have child critter, anyway.
Can you please upload your save so I can check it? Save files are in Fallout 2\Resurrection\data\SAVEGAME folder and each folder there is one save slot.

Yeah, problem could be in that, but Tommy's critter is actually set not to disappear.

When I load your save, his body is there.

I have a theory what caused it, but first some questions for to be sure:
Steave in Rat Hole (Mutt's owner) was there, right? He wasn't missing? I ask because he's using the same appearance as Tommy.
Do you have some other mods installed in Fallout 2? Other mod could cause it if it would be done wrong and would mess with original Fallout 2 files, which is very unlikely.

So my theory is, German version is missing some death animations. Download this file:
http://www.filedropper.com/nmpeasrd
And copy it into:
Fallout 2\Resurrection\data\art\critters
"critters" folder probably doesn't exists so create it.
This add Tommy's death animation to Resurrection. Let me know if it helps.

I did what u wrote and it worked! Thanks for your help!

Ive downloaded the whole "critters" library now with 2491 files in it.
Do you think this will fix all issues related to the cut version of FO2?

You guys made a rly fun game there...far more enjoyable than FO4.

It'll fix issues with dead bodies. Hopefully, there won't be other problems, but I don't know what else was cut from German version. I didn't know about those animations until now. Had I knew it, the necessary files would be part of Resurrection.
If you want to be sure, install English version of Fallout 2. If you have GOG or Steam version, you have option to download English version.

I cannot find Tommy's corpse [Spoliers]

Post by Kobal »

At the beginning of the game I am supposed to find Oswalds missing son Tommy and Rachel's necklace. Supposedly (and according to some youtube video) both quests find their resolution on a corpse in the southeast corner of the starting cave (close to that big radscorpion).

Only ... the corpse is not there.

Is this a bug, or am I missing some prerequisites?

Hi. The problem is probably caused by German version missing death animation for Tommy. Solution:
Download this file:
http://www.filedropper.com/nmpeasrd
And copy it into:
Fallout 2\Resurrection\data\art\critters
"critters" folder probably doesn't exists so create it.
This adds Tommy's death animation to Resurrection.

See more info about this problem here - viewtopic.php?f=12&t=966
Later, I'll merge this thread into that one.
